A Few Guidelines For Your Next Painting Project

So it’s time to paint the house and you’re trying to decide whether to try it yourself and save the expense of hiring a professional painter or going ahead and spending the money to have it painted professionally. In this article we’ll look at what you need if you decide to paint it yourself, and what to look for if you decide to hire a professional to do it. So after you’ve decided to do it yourself after much thought, let ‘s look at what you need to get started. Next, you’ll need to get started with some simple tools and equipment. You may want to write down everything you need before hand so you won’t be delayed when you’re ready to start, because you’ve forgotten something. Learn more onĀ Frederick Painting & Supply, Inc..

The first thing you need to do when painting a house’s exterior is to wash it under water. Be sure to use a cleaning detergent formulated solely for pressure washing. Most of all pressure washers have a chemical injection device on them, so you can directly apply the cleaner to the surface. Be sure not to use too much pressure when using a pressure washer, as this can damage the surface you are cleaning up. Second, you’ll have to determine how to apply the paint onto the board. There are three basic techniques you may use, such as brush, roll or spray. I would encourage you to take this one off of your list unless you have experience using an airless sprayer, because you might end up doing much more damage than good with a sprayer.

First you need to be able to reach whatever surface you ‘re painting so you’ll need ladders, perhaps an extension ladder and a step ladder as well. There’s also something you need to protect your shrubs and sidewalks so you’ll need some tarps or dropcloths. Last but not least, you’ll need some small tools, a caulk pistol, putty knife, scraper and of course a good paint brush. If you don’t have some of these items like ladders, pressure washer or an airless sprayer you can rent them at your local rental equipment store.

Safety is the number one priority when assuming this type of project. Every year, there are many serious accidents and falls-induced deaths. Even, you need to watch out for another safety threat while moving ladders are not mindful of where the power lines are.

You will have someone to support you too. This is a huge project and it will require some help. As painting is very labor intensive, the easier it will be the more help you get.

Check with some of your neighbors, coworkers and friends if you decide to hire a professional and see if they have someone they used before they could recommend. Typically this is the only way to locate a decent painter. You could also call your local Chamber of Commerce, check the internet for local painting contractors, or browse through your local Yellow Pages.

Still obtain offers from three separate painting firms so be sure to equate apples with apples. Many firms will be much cheaper but they will use subpar material and cut corners wherever they can. Next, ask for insurance documentation, not only general liability, but also protection for employees. Get at least three references and go and look at their work, and talk to the homeowner as well. Lastly, if you have not received a referral from your local Better Business Bureau, contact them and find out whether there have been any concerns from the company you are considering.
